Description: A deciduous sun loving large bulb epiphytic American orchid that is native to South Florida too. New growths emerge in February-March and it blooms in April. The 1-2 inch blooms have a base color of brown and green sprinkled with orange & yellow and occur on a multi branched inflorescence up to three-four feet tall.
Culture: Mine are grown in large wood baskets or 10 inch net pots and are divided/repotted every three years. Medium is clay pellets/medium charcoal/medium perlite/small cork chips. It is a heavy feeder and likes lots of water during active growth with one exception, that is if one wants bloom spikes, When new growths first emerge in late winter/early spring at bases of newest bulbs withhold water until bloom spikes emerge from new growths and reach a couple inches in length . If water is not withheld, bloom spikes may not emerge and plant will devote all energy into new growth.
