Description:
Culture: ORIGIN/HABITAT: Indonesia. LIGHT: 1000-1200 fc. Morning light is preferable as the habitat is typically cloudy in the afternoon. Strong air movement should be provided at all times. TEMPERATURES: Throughout the year, days average 29-32C, and nights average 22-23C. Night temperatures vary by only 1C throughout the year, and the record low is 18.3C, less than 6C below the averages. The diurnal range is greater than the seasonal variation. HUMIDITY: 80-85% during most of the year, dropping to 70-75% for several months in late summer and early autumn. WATER: Rainfall is heavy all year, with a somewhat drier period in late summer and early autumn. Cultivated plants should be kept moist, but conditions around the roots should never become stale or soggy. Warm water, about 21C, is highly recommended. REST PERIOD: Growing conditions should be maintained all year. Although rainfall in the habitat is heavy throughout the year, water should be reduced somewhat for cultivated plants in winter, particularly those grown in the dark, short-day conditions common in temperate latitudes. They should never dry out completely, however. Light may be increased slightly during the fall months, and fertilizer should be reduced when plants are not actively growing.
