Make crosses only four times during the month: two days before the first quarter moon; one day after the first quarter moon; the day before the last quarter moon; and, on the full moon. OR79-116; this is worthless. OWD

Some hybridizers find they get a higher percentage of "takes" when pollination is done four days before the first quarter and two days after the first quarter, or the first day before the third quarter. F71-138; worthless. OWD

Moon Phases Comments
MOON PHASES: At Pollination Time It had no effect on capsule set of Oncid. variegatum; extensive experiments at the University of Puerto Rico proved it did not matter whether the first quarter phase, the full moon, the third quarter, or the new moon was used, as claimed by Moir and other moon-struck experts. MOON PHASES: For Hybridizing The optimum time to hybridize is between the period three days before and three days after the first quarter phase of the moon; 2nd best time is just before or after 3rd quarter phase. ODA76(4)-22; OR79-116; this is nonsense. OWD 0
