Parentage declaration and registration at the Royal Horticultural Society is traditional but the rise of patented plants has led to secrecy of breeding lines and non-registration of them; examples: Cymbidium Pirate, and Cym. Maquise, patented by Vacherot & Lecoufle. OA78-202; OA79-56
