ORIGIN: Found in eastern Himalayas, Assam, Sri Lanka, India, Bhutan, Sikkim, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Japan, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, Sumatra, Borneo, New Guinea and the Philippines on dry ridges in lowland, hill and lower montane, pine forests at elevations of 500 to 1700 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Large to giant sized, hot to cool growing, mycoheterotrophic, terrestrial orchid with a basally thick and fleshy, erect stem enveloped by several short sheaths, leafless when blooming, occurring in the mid summer through fall on a loosely many flowered, 12 [30 cm] tall, racemose inflorescence with oblong-ligulate, deflexed downwards to lie along the stem floral bracts ahd carrying wide open flowers.
