Bletia rosea is an orchid species identified by (Linden ex Lindl.) Rchb.f. in W.G.Walpers in 1862. Culture information and photos for this orchid are commonly detailed under the currently accepted name of Laelia rosea.
ORIGIN: Found from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Hinduras and Nicaragua in wet oak-pine forests on protected cliffs at elevations of 1100 to 2100 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with a partially submerged, suborbicular corm giving rise to 1 to 2, apical, lanceolate, acute, plicate leaves that blooms in the fall on a basal, slender, erect, 1 1/2' [45 cm] long, few to several [3 to 6] flowered inflorescence arising on a newly matured pseudobulb with basal sheaths.
