Orchid Species: Cyrtorchis crassifolia
(This name is currently accepted by Kew.)
Cyrtorchis crassifolia is an orchid species identified by Schltr. in R.E.Fries in 1916.
ORIGIN: Found in Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, southern Tanzania, Zaire, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and most likely Madasgascar in high rainfall woodlands in deep mosses and lichens on lower branches of large trees on ridges with plenty of air and night mists at elevations of 1200 to 2000 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte which responds best to mounting if given high humidity and ample air circulation and has a short stem carrying, 2 to 6, very fleshy, narrowly v -shaped in cross-section, grey green, spotted black, recurved leaves and blooms in the summer on several at a time, axillary, 2 [5 cm] long, 3 to 8 densely flowered inflorescence with nocturnally scented [hyacinth] flowers.
FLOWER SIZE: 1 inch [2.5 cm] with spur
