ORIGIN: Found in Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland, Cape Province, Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal South Africa in submontane grasslands and Vlei margins at elevations of 1500 to 1650 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Medium to large sized, cool growing terrestrial with subterranean tubers giving rise to an erect stem carrying 3, erect, linear, plicate leaves that are partly to fully developed at flowering which occurs in the spring and early summer on a stout, elongate, 8 to 18 [20 to 45 cm] long, fairly densely several to many [6 to 50] flowered inflorescence enveloped by several loose sheaths and carries flowers that do not open widely.
