Orchid Species: Habenaria holothrix

Habenaria holothrix is an orchid species identified by Schltr. in O.Warburg (ed.) in 1903.
ORIGIN: Found in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe in seasonally wet, grassy depressions at elevations around 1150 to 1360 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Miniature to small sized, cool growing terrestrial with ellipsoid, sparsely tomentose tubers giving rise to an erect, with spreading hairy stem carrying a single, basal, adpressed to the ground, broadly ovate to orbicular, basally cordate, glabrous to sparsely hairy on top, ciliate margined, apiculate leaf, bract-like, hairy leaves above up the stem that blooms in the early summer on an erect, terminal, .4 to 4.4" [1 to 11 cm] long, laxly 2 to 20 flowered inflorescence with softly hairy bracts and green to yellow green flowers that are sometimes fragrant.
