ORIGIN: Found in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Spain, the Balearic Islands, France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, Yugoslavia, Albania, eastern Aegean Islands, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Kirgyistan, Kazakistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia in calcareous dune slacks, marshy meadows and fens at elevations up to 1800 meters in full sun on damp to wet basic substrates that are sometimes saline.

DESCRIPTION: Small to large sized, cold growing terrestrial with 4 to 6, linear-lanceolate to linear, unmarked, keeled leaves that blooms in the spring and early summer on a cylindric, 3 to 9 [7.5 to 2.5 cm] long, loose, many flowered inflorescence.
