ORIGIN: Found in Pakistan, the western Himalayas, the Chinese Himalayas, Assam, the eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Taiwan, the Ryukyu Islands and Korea in forests along rivers, in forest margins and on open grassy slopes at elevations of 700 to 1500 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Miniature to just medium sized, warm to cool growing, leafless terrestrial with a subterranean, branching, soft, fleshy, tuberculate rhizome giving rise in the spring and summer on a terminal, from the end of the rhizome, erect, 3 to 6 flowered inflorescence enveloped basally by 4 to 8, imbricating, boat-shaped, ovate bracts and oblong-lanceolate, acute floral bracts.
