Orchid Species: Phaius daenikeri

Phaius daenikeri is an orchid species identified by Kraenzl. in 1929.
ORIGIN: Found in central and southeast New Caledonia on rotting logs with 2 forms that grow in 2 different elevational locations the first one at 100 to 600 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Found in central and southeast New Caledonia on rotting logs with 2 forms that grow in 2 different elevational locations the first one at 100 to 600 meters with green leaves with varying amounts of yellow specks with 6 to 15 pale yellow flowers with a dull orange midlobe and the second form is at 800 to 1200 meters and has pale green leaves and 3 to 11 golden yellow flowers with an oranger red midlobe of the lip. The first form is a hot to warm growing terrestrial the second form is a warm to cool growing terrestrial or epiphyte that blooms in the spring, early summerand fall.
