ORIGIN: Found in Zaire, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Angola, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe in upland often rocky grasslands at elevations around 2100 to 2800 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with ellipsoid to fusiform-ovoid tubers giving rise to an erect, slender stem carrying 2 nearly opposite, short, sheathing, subacute leaves towards the base, with 5 to 7 overall, the middle 2 more or leess spreading, elliptical, to elliptical-lanceolate, acute, the upper 2 to 3, distant, lanceolate, adpressed to the stem leaves that blooms in the summer on a narrowly cylindrical, 2 to 7.2 [5 to 18 cm] long, rather closely 9 to many flowered inflorescence with reflexed, lanceolate, acute bracts.
