ORIGIN: Found in Zaire, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe in upland grasslands or swamps at elevations of 1800 to 2400 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with ovoid to ellipsoid tubers giving rise to an erect, leafy stem with the lowermost 1 to 2 being sheath like and the middle ones suberect to spreading, broadly lanceolate, loosely clasping stem at the base, the upper ones grading into bracts that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, 4 to 9.6 [10 to 24 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence carrying leafy, shorter than the flowers floral bracts.
