Encyclia aspera

I bought an Encyclia aspera from you at the Sarasota Orchid Society meeting in July.  It is blooming beautifully.  I have noticed spots of gooey liquid coming out at junctions on the spike.  Is this normal?  I can send a photo, but could not find a way to attach it to this text.  Thanks.
