seed vs. pollen parent

General Discussion

by Robert H. Findlay

In naming a cross does seed vs. pollen parent matter?  In a day or two I will be posting a picture of Brs. verrucosa x Rex.  Orchidroots lists Brs. Rex x verrucosa as Brs. Rising Star.  Is my plant also Rising Star, even though the seed and pollen parents have been flipped from the original registration?

Yes it is. The reciprocal cross will have the same grex name. I emailed you the article on Orchid Names: Basics.
