Orchid Species: Disa bifida

Disa bifida is an orchid species identified by (Thunb.) Sw. in 1800.
ORIGIN: Found only in southwestern and southern Cape Province of South Africa in plains in deep sand at elevations of sea level to 1000 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial orchid occurring on sandy or gravelly soil or clay which is wet in winter and dry in summer and flowering occurs on a wiry, erect, terminal, to 10 [to 25 cm] long, 1 to 4 flowered inflorescence carrying a few flowers in the late winter and spring.
FLOWER SIZE: 1/4 inch [0.65 cm]
