ORIGIN: Found in Valle de Cauca Colombia and Ecuador in virgin cloud forests at elevations of 1700 to 2600 meters.

DESCRIPTION: Medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thinly coriaceous, carinate, narrowly elliptical, acute, gradually narrowing below into the conduplicate, indistinct, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring, summer and fall on a purple, stout, erect sometimes horizontal, 2' [60 cm] long, successively few flowered, racemose inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with tubular floral bracts and produces large, single flowers in procession.
