Orchid Species: Eriochilus cucullatus
(This name is currently accepted by Kew.)
Eriochilus cucullatus is an orchid species identified by (Labill.) Rchb.f. in 1871.
ORIGIN: Found in New South Wales, and Queensland Australia at elevations of 50 to 800 meters in in shallow moss-covered sandy soil on rock ledges and in crevices between rock plates.
DESCRIPTION: Miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying a few ground-hugging ovate, fully developed at blooming, dark green above reddish purple beneath, prominently veined, pubescent or not leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, 1.6 to 4.8 [4 to 12 cm] long, 1 to 3 flowered inflorescence.
FLOWER SIZE: 1/2 inch [1.25 cm]
