Orchid Species: Holothrix longiflora

Holothrix longiflora is an orchid species identified by Rolfe in 1889.
ORIGIN: Found in Tanzania. Angola, Malawi and Zambia at elevations of 1200 to 2200 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small to medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial in Brachystegia woodland or among rocks in grasslands with ovoid to ellipsoid, densely tometose tubers giving rise to 2, basal, the lower broadly ovate to reniform, the upper smaller, ovate to transversely elliptical, both very sparsely hairy on the upper surface, glabrous beneath leaves that blooms in the winter on a terminal, erect, rather stout, with numerous, long, weak hairs and a few lanceolate, acute bracts on the upper part, more or less secund, to 5 [12.5 cm] long, rather laxly to 20 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, shorter than the ovary, densely hairy floral bracts and carries strongly and sweetly scented flowers.
