Orchid Species: Pescatoria dayana

Pescatoria dayana is an orchid species identified by Rchb.f. in 1872.
ORIGIN: Found in Panama [var. rhodacra, first photo grows warmer, elevations of 300 to 800 meters], Colombia [var. candidula, second photo grows cooler at elevations of 1300 to 1500 meters], and Ecuador [grows cooler at elevations of 1500 meters].
DESCRIPTION: Medium to large sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte of wet forests found low on the trunks of mossy trees with suberect, oblong-oblanceolate, acuminate, petiolate, plicate leaves that blooms in the winter on an axillary, short to 4 2/5 [to 11 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with 2 short sheaths and a lanceolate, acute floral bract carrying a very fragrant, longlasting, waxy flower set low within the leaves.
