ORIGIN: A native of the island of Madiera as a small to just large sized, cool to warm growing terrestrial at altitudes of 400 to 1150 meters in meadows near running water.

DESCRIPTION: A native of the island of Madiera as a small to just large sized, cool to warm growing terrestrial at altitudes of 400 to 1150 meters in meadows near running water with digitate, 2 to 5 lobed tubers giving rise to a solid thick, grooved at the tip stem carrying 8 to 16, distichous, lanceolate to ovate, acute, glossy green, rarely faintly spotted leaves that blooms in the later spring and early summer on a terminal, erect, 3 to 8 [7.5 to 20 cm] long, densely flowered, pyramidal, bracteate, racemose inflorescence.
