ORIGIN: Found in Mozambique, Swaziland, Cape Province, Natal and Transvaal South Africa in coastal bush and grasslands at elevations of 900 to 1800.

DESCRIPTION: Small to large sized, cool growing terrestrial with subterranean, tuberous, perennating organs giving rise to and erect leafy stem carrying about 3, erect, linear, acuminate, plicate, longer than the inflorescence leaves that are partly to fully developed at blooming in the late spring and early summer on an erect, stout, short, capitate, very densely 15 to 35 flowered inflorescence enveloped basally by imbricating sheaths.
