ORIGIN: Found in the Cape Verde Islands, Benin, Burkino Faso, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Burundi, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Rwanda, Zaire, Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Angola, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Oman, Saudia Arabia and Yemen in scrub and woodland, on poor rocky soil at elevations of 600 to 2000 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with clustered, ovoid-conical, 2 to 3 noded pseudobulb carrying 2 to 4, elliptic to broadly lanceolate, depressed veins, acute leaves that blooms on a erect, to almost 2' [60 cm] long, loosely several to many [5 to 15], flowered inflorescence with waxy, fragrant flowers occurring in the fall and early winter. This species can be found with or without deciduous leaves.
