ORIGIN: Found in Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau; Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana; Togo, Benin; Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo and Zaire, Chad, Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia in seasonally burnt grasslands, acacia bushlands and woodlands at elevations of 700 to 1850 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Large to giant sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with potato-like, cylindrical-ellipsoid, whitish tubers in chains giving rise to 4 to 6 erect, plicate, lanceolate, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter through spring on an erect, appearing before the leaves, 6 to 18 [15 to 45 cm] long, laxly 10 to 30 flowered inflorescence with aristate bracts.
