ORIGIN: Found from Assam, Bangladesh, eastern Himalayas, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, western Himalayas, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Borneo, Java, Sumatra, Lesser Sunda Islands, The Philippines, China, Ryukyu Islands and Japan at elevations of 100 to 2400 meters in wet open mossy places among secondary grasslands and open shrubs, commonly along rocky stream valleys and on spring seepages.

DESCRIPTION: Small to large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial species with a whitish stem enveloped completely by lanceolate, acute, acuminate, petiolate, basally clasping leaves, uppermost smaller than below that blooms in the early spring on an erect, to 8 [to 20 cm] long, many flowered, closely set, racemose inflorescence with 2 to 3 well spaced bracts and long-triangular, acute floral bracts and carrying flowers that do not open widely.
