ORIGIN: Found in Assam, eastern Himalayas, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailnd, Vietnam, Taiwan, China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Sumatra and Java in lower closed, humid, broad leafed, primary forests to the peaks of the highest mountains in highland primary, montane cloud forests at elevations of 1000 to 3000 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial in damp crevasses with rich humus, a lithophyte on mossy limestone rocks and occasional epiphyte with a stem enveloped completely by to 8, shiny green with pale yellow splotches above, grey green below, ovate, acute, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the late spring, summer and fall on an erect, pubescent, 4.8 to 7.6 [12 to 19 cm] long, few to several florwered inflorescence carrying the flowers all in one plane in the upper 1/4 and having 4 bracts and long-ovate, acute floral bracts.
