ORIGIN: Found from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela in wet montane forests as a caespitose, small to medium sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial or epiphytic species from wet montane forests or cloud forests that is characterized by it's hanging solitary flower. It is found at altitudes of 750 to 2800 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Found from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela in wet montane forests as a caespitose, small to medium sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial or epiphytic species from wet montane forests or cloud forests that is characterized by it's hanging solitary flower. It is found at altitudes of 750 to 2800 meters with a long, thin ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 long, close, tubular, distant sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, lanceolate, cordate, acute, abruptly narrowing below, prominent midvein, clear green leaf that blooms in the fall through early winter on an apical, short, fasciculate, pendulous, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with a small scarious spathe with the flower held dangling from near the leaf base.
The flowers of this species can be quite variable in coloration and form.
