Orchid Species: Masdevallia sanctae-rosae

Masdevallia sanctae-rosae is an orchid species identified by Kraenzl. in 1925.
ORIGIN: Found in Antioquia Colombia in cloud forests at elevations of 2200 to 2800 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls with small, red, bumpy spots and enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular, red bumpy spotted sheaths and carrying a single, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptic, acute leaf that gradually narrows into the long petiole and blooms in the late spring on a horizontal to ascending, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul, with a bract below the middle and a tubular floral bract carrying a colorless tailess flower and can be confused with Pleurothallis if attention is not given to the petals and lip.
