DESCRIPTION: Found in Chiapas State of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Peru on shade trees in coffee plantations as a large sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte at elevations around 700 to 1400 meters that has pyriform, ovoid pseudobulbs enveloped basally by large, imbricating leaf sheaths and carrying 2, apical, erect, oblanceolate, oblong, acute leaves that are attenuate basally and blooms in the fall on an axillary, to 7' [210 cm] long, many branched, racemose, paniculate inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb with 15 to 25 branches each carrying 5 to 8, smaller, lilac scented flowers.
