ORIGIN: Found in Peru, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador in the lower levels of wet montane forests at elevations of 1700 to 2700 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial or occasional epiphyte with a leafy stem enveloped by a few distant, tubular, acuminate sheaths and carrying suberect, lanceolate, sessile, acuminate, distichous, slightly plicate, sub-clasping leaves and blooms in the late winter and early spring on a terminal, 1 to 1 1/4 [2.5 to 3 cm] long, successively single few flowered inflorescence arising from several imbricating bracts that form a small cone carrying 1 to 3, fugaceous, small for the genus, flowers.
