ORIGIN: Found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in wet montane forests at elevations around 1400 to 3200 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by a tubular sheath near the middle and 2 to 3 others about the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer, fall and earlier winter on 1 to 3, erect, distichous, 2.8 to 6 [7 to 15 cm] long including the .2 to 1 [.5 to 2.5 cm] long peduncle, mostly simultaneously several flowered inflorescence arising through a spathe from an annulus at the the apex of the ramicaul and has oblique, acute floral bracts.
