For show purposes; because the roots otherwise spread and cling widely to the bench, etc., when potting place the plant in the pot so that the media comes up only half-way, so that the roots will circle the top half of the pot. AU76-129

Vandas Comments
VANDAS: Air-layering Cut around the stem into live tissue; dust with Rootone, and place wet sphagnum over it, cover with polyethylene and secure with elastic bands; wait till roots are 1.5 inches, cut off and pot. F70-117 0
VANDAS: Crown Rot During rainy weather in Florida additional protection is advised; deposit a small teaspoonful of Captan in the uppermost leaf axils and the crown; with each watering or rain a deposit of Captan will be washed down and protect susceptible points. F76-134 0
VANDAS: In Baskets Because "potting on" with them can be a problem, start with three inch baskets for seedlings and when necessary move it whole into a four inch or five inch size, and continue this system (move both plant and basket) the roots are not damaged nor set back; fill in the spaces with pieces of charcoal; Florida. F86-86 0
VANDAS: Inducing Rooting To make roots appear half -way up the stem so that dividing and repotting can follow, peel the tight brown outer covering "bark" off the stem; a root tip should appear soon after. AU76-129 0
VANDAS: Lack Roots Up-stem for Repotting Air-layer the stems to induce rooting by wrapping some places on the stem with moist sphagnum wrapped with polyethylene secured top and bottom with string or elastic, until new roots are large enough to warrant cutting off the stem part. A76-698 0
VANDAS: Leaves Curl, Turn Yellow and Fall This shows up in the fall, with cool weather; it is caused by a poor root system, or nutrient deficiency; fertilize regularly during the summer. F76-33 0
VANDAS: Leaves Fold in V-shape Caused by insufficient water and/or humidity and/or excessive sunlight. F76-85 0
VANDAS: Minimum Optimums 55 to 65 deg.F. nights; 40 to 50% relative humidity; 4,000fc. winter and 8,000fc. summer. AU71-135; temperatures. OR80-118+ 0
VANDAS: No Blooms Vanda hybrids with V. sanderiana blood will not bloom if kept too cold, even when located south of Miami; also, relatively strong light is necessary. A71-345 0
VANDAS: To Make More Plants Cut off the top half or so of the plant so that it has aerial roots, leave the leaves on the bottom section, soak the roots to make them pliable for placing within the pot in new pot and potting mix. A69-55 0
