The husk left from sugar cane after the sugar is removed; bagasse; it absorbs moisture and releases it slowly; has a pot life as a potting medium in combination with sphagnum peat of several years; cattleyas, dendrobiums, phalaenopsis seedlings, prosper in a mix of Servo, charcoal and long fiber sphagnum peat; bagasse mugt be sterilized to kill smut; correct pH with lime to 5.5 with about four tablespoons per hobby bag; refill pots from time to time; old medium can be hosed off for repotting.
