ORIGIN: Found in western Himalayas, Assam, Bangladesh, Eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, Nepal, China, Vietnam, Japan, Korea and Taiwan on rocks in degraded evergreen oak forests at elevations of 1650 to 3000 meteres.
DESCRIPTION: Small sized, warm to cold growing, evergreen terrestrial-lithophyic species found in moist grasslands, thickets or montane woodlands, with a very short stem, carrying 3 to 5, lowermost sheathing, the rest plicate, elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate leaves that are sparsely puberulous above that blooms in the later spring on an erect, 8 to 24 [20 to 60 cm] long, puberulous, racemose inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts that carries up to 30, puberulent on the outside flowers held well above the leaves.
