ORIGIN: Found in Quebec, Ontario, Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kanasas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua in rich, calcareous woodlands.

DESCRIPTION: Mini-miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial mycotrophyte with, arising in the fall, a bronzy green to yellow stem carrying 5 to 12 flowered inflorescence carrying cleistogamous flowers.
