ORIGIN: Found in Jalisco, Mexico, Puebla, Morelos, Oaxaca, Guerrero and Michoacan states of Mexico in seasonally, very dry oak forests or in moist pine-oak forests at elevations of 1400 to 2300 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Small to medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphytic species. The numerous, clustered, 3 noded, bronze-colored, longitudinally rugose pseudobulbs are round to conic-ovoid and enveloped by papery bracts basally and carrying 1 to 2, linear to linear-ligulate, acute to obtuse, apiculate, basally conduplicate, sulcate and caniculate above, coriaceous-fleshy, rigid leaves that blooms in the late winter through spring on a terminal, erect, often branched, terete, purple, 4.4 to 18 [11 to 45 cm] long, few to many flowered inflorescence with amplexicaul, triangular-ovate, obtuse, mucronate, membraneous-papery floral bracts and carrying fragrant [when sunning] flowers.
