DESCRIPTION: A large to giant sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial occurring in wet montane forests at 660 to 3130 meters with an erect, cane-like, simple, stout stem with many rather thin, size variable, lanceolate, long-acuminate, very large, plicate, acuminate, sessile leaves on rather loose fitting prominently ribbed, glabrous sheaths that blooms in the spring on a very compact, cylindric, to 7 1/4 [18 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence that arises from 2 to 3 large, imbricating, erect sheaths with rather thin, spreading, oblong-lanceolate, acute, floral bracts that are shorter than the flowers.
