ORIGIN: Found in Colombia on the western slope of the Western Cordillera in wet cloud forests on road banks at elevations around 1900 to 2500 meters.
DESCRIPTION: Large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with ascending rhizomes enveloped by conduplicate, triangular sheaths giving rise to spaced 6 [15 cm] ap[art, purplish green, slightly compressed, ovate, rugose pseudobulbs enveloped basally by imbricate sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, dark green adaxially, purple beneath, elliptic-ovate, rounded-retuse and asymetrical apically, coriaceous, conduplicate below leaf that blooms in the winter on numerous, mostly basal, a few from the rhizome, peduncle to 3.8 [9 cm] long, somewhat fractiflex, envelopoed by 5 to 7, greenish tinged qwith purple towards the apex, lanceolate bracts, to 4.8 [12 cm] long overall, fasciculate, with simultaenosuly opening 1 to 3 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, longer than the ovary floral bracts.
