ORIGIN: Found in Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Italia and Sicily in short grasslands, moorlands, woodland edges, scrub and open woodland.
DESCRIPTION: Small to giant sized, cold growing terrestrial with a few clustered yellowish green, hairless base, purplish, apically greyish, pubescent stems and carrying 5 to 10, sometimes in 2 opposing rows, green to yellowish green, spreading erect, arching, channeled, undulate margin cauline leaves and the median leaves are oval-lanceolate, acuminate then grading into the upper 1 to 3, bract-like leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, 2 to 8 [5 to 20 cm] long, 10 to 40 flowered inflorescence.
