ORIGIN: Found in eastern Canada as well as all of the United States to the east of the Mississippi river in sunny, marshy areas, pine flatwoods, boggy roadsides and swamps.

DESCRIPTION: Small to large sized, cold growing terrestrial with a subterranean, ovoid, cormous pseudobulb carrying 1 to 5 linear-lanceolate, acuminate, ribbed leaves that blooms in the late spring in Florida and summer in the north on a basal, 10 to 2'6 [25 to 75 cm] long, erect to arching, slender, subcapitate, several successive flowered inflorescence with ovate, acute floral bracts and up to 25 flowers.
